Accreditation is a process that requires programs to undergo comprehensive, periodic evaluations, and assures that the graduates are well-prepared and ready for advanced study and real-world employment. It helps students and their parents to choose quality accredited university programs. In 2021, the online Kenyan newspaper Tuko ranked the International Open University among the top accredited distance learning universities in Africa, along with the University of Johannesburg, the University of Zambia, the University of South Africa, the University of Nairobi and the University of Pretoria, in addition to few other universities. The department’s success is a culmination of a six-year exercise that included an intensive self-study as well as review visits from ACAEJMC members, with full participation of the College and Department administration, faculty, staff and students.
